Dabi receives an ideal new power in the latest development of My Hero Academia

In the latest development of My Hero Academia, a beloved and action-packed manga series, the character Dabi (also known as Toya Todoroki) reveals a new Quirk that perfectly aligns with his tragic backstory, further deepening the narrative of the Todoroki family. Chapter #387 of My Hero Academia sheds light on the intense battle between Endeavor (Enji Todoroki) and his son, Dabi, as their long-standing conflict reaches its climax. During this pivotal moment, it is unveiled that Dabi possesses the ability to manipulate ice, a Quirk inherited from his mother, Rei Himura.

The chapter showcases Endeavor’s desperate attempt to prevent Dabi from causing a catastrophic explosion that would result in numerous casualties. Driven by his pain and deep-seated hatred, Dabi utilizes his Blueflame Quirk to its extreme, generating flames of extraordinary power. Intriguingly, Endeavor questions how Dabi manages to wield such intense flames without succumbing to their heat, prompting a startling realization. It becomes evident that Dabi has awakened his mother’s ice-based Quirk, previously unknown to both his father and readers alike.

Toya Todoroki, the firstborn son of Enji and Rei, possessed a formidable fire-based Quirk, known as Blueflame, that surpassed even his father’s abilities. However, Endeavor’s true aspiration was to produce an offspring who could inherit both his and Rei’s Quirks, ultimately surpassing the legendary hero, All Might. Tragically, Toya lacked his father’s resistance to heat but inherited his mother’s resistance to cold. Consequently, he suffered from his own flames, leading Endeavor to cease his training as a hero. This, coupled with the birth of Shoto, who inherited both parents’ Quirks, propelled Toya’s descent into madness and transformation into the formidable villain, Dabi.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Dabi’s character is his apparent indifference to being burned and harmed by his own powers. Fueled by his deep-rooted hatred towards his father and the entire hero society, he perseveres through the pain. However, the recent chapter reveals a captivating twist—the reason for Dabi’s survival despite unleashing his flames to their maximum potential lies in the awakening of Rei’s ice-based Quirk. This dormant power shields the core of his body, providing him protection. Rather than a newfound Quirk development, this manifestation is described as an ability that emerges during moments of imminent peril and traumatic experiences. It is a power borne out of the brink of death.

The revelation that Toya always possessed the potential to awaken his mother’s Quirk adds an additional layer of sadness and poeticism to his character arc. The ice Quirk blossoming within Toya’s being serves as a physical representation of his mother’s innate desire to safeguard her estranged child, despite the tumultuous events that unfolded within the Todoroki family. Shortly after this revelation, Rei joins the climactic battle between Endeavor and Dabi, indicating her willingness to share the burden with her husband. Through the bestowal of his mother’s Quirk upon Dabi, My Hero Academia weaves a poignant tale, bringing the tragic story of the Todoroki family full circle and unraveling further complexities within its narrative.
