Goku meets his younger self in a forgotten Dragon Ball Z special

The 1992 OVA titled Goku’s World presents a unique and forgotten Dragon Ball Z special where the Z Fighters embark on a time-traveling adventure through various battles from the Dragon Ball series. Released exclusively on VHS, this animated special is now difficult to find, and its chances of being re-released are slim.

In Goku’s World, Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Trunks, and Bulma utilize Trunks’ time machine to revisit key moments in Dragon Ball’s history. The special concludes with a glimpse of Perfect Cell, the current antagonist during its release, and a brief battle between the Z Fighters and the android. During Cell’s utilization of the Afterimage Technique, viewers can participate by identifying the real Cell, yet again without affecting the course of events in the OVA.

While Goku’s World may have primarily served as a marketing tool to promote the Terebikko and the anime’s latest arc, it still holds some value for fans. The meetings between Goku and his younger self, as well as Gohan and King Piccolo, offer rewarding moments for long-time enthusiasts. Additionally, witnessing old battles reimagined in a slightly updated animation style provides an intriguing glimpse into what could have been if Dragon Ball had originated in the ’90s.
