Marvel actor saddened by Disney’s decision not to renew his MCU show, despite its strong Rotten Tomatoes score

Anthony Mackie, known for his portrayal of Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently shared his disappointment regarding the absence of a second season for “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” The series, which concluded with Wilson taking up the mantle of Captain America, garnered praise from both fans and critics alike. However, despite its success, Mackie expressed regret that the story wouldn’t be continuing in a subsequent season.

In an interview with Radio Times, Mackie conveyed his enthusiasm for reprising his role alongside co-star Sebastian Stan, who portrays Bucky Barnes, and Daniel Brühl, who portrayed Helmut Zemo. Mackie jokingly remarked that he was looking forward to a second season simply to have the opportunity to hang out with his fellow actors and friends, emphasizing the camaraderie they shared on set.

However, Mackie revealed that the narrative trajectory would shift towards his character’s solo journey as Captain America, with the announcement of “Captain America: Brave New World.” This solo film, slated for release next year, will delve deeper into Sam Wilson’s evolution as he assumes the iconic role previously held by Steve Rogers.

Despite Mackie’s disappointment over the lack of a second season, he remains optimistic about the future of his character and the MCU. However, the absence of his co-stars, Stan and Brühl, in the upcoming film adds a bittersweet element to his anticipation. Mackie expressed his fondness for the camaraderie they shared during the filming of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and lamented the absence of their presence in the upcoming project.

The decision not to pursue a second season of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” comes as a surprise to many, especially considering the series’ critical acclaim, as evidenced by its impressive 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While a second season hasn’t been explicitly ruled out, Mackie’s remarks suggest that the likelihood is slim.

As fans eagerly anticipate the release of “Captain America: Brave New World” on February 14, 2025, they can only hope that it will provide a satisfying continuation of Sam Wilson’s journey as the new Captain America. In the meantime, enthusiasts can stay updated on all things MCU by exploring the diverse array of upcoming Marvel movies and TV shows.
