Marvel Studios Retains Kang in MCU Despite Jonathan Majors’ Departure

A recent report sheds light on the future of Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following Jonathan Majors’ departure. Despite ongoing talks about finding a replacement, Marvel Studios is committed to retaining the character, with no immediate announcement on Majors’ successor.

According to insights from Deadline’s Justin Kroll, Marvel is taking a deliberate approach to recasting Kang, urging fans not to anticipate swift news. Kroll shared, “See a lot ‘who will play Kang next’ and ‘here is a top contender for Kang’ comments this week, and all I’ll say is this, don’t expect that news anytime soon.”

Addressing the speculation surrounding potential frontrunners like Colman Domingo, Kroll expressed a lack of intel on the current casting situation. He clarified, “This isn’t dismissing any rumor this week about potential contenders for the role. I don’t have any intel on those being true or not true. It’s just letting you know if I were betting what gets announced first, Kang or the field, I’d put money on the field.”

Colman Domingo, among other actors, has been linked to the Kang role, with some considering him a strong candidate. However, Domingo himself has acknowledged the rumors, stating he has heard discussions but has not been officially approached about the opportunity.

Jonathan Majors’ exit from Marvel, following legal issues, has led to a reshuffling of plans for the MCU. Kang, initially set up as a significant antagonist akin to Thanos, was anticipated to play a pivotal role in upcoming Avengers films. However, Majors’ departure has led to the reevaluation of these plans, with the original title, “The Kang Dynasty,” scrapped. There are even rumors of Doctor Doom potentially taking over as the MCU’s primary villain.

Jonathan Majors has addressed his Marvel firing and legal troubles, expressing sadness about being removed from the MCU while maintaining his innocence regarding the alleged incident with his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. As Majors faces legal proceedings, the impact of his departure extends beyond Marvel, affecting other projects, including the delayed release of the film “Magazine Dreams” and the loss of a role in the Dennis Rodman biopic, “48 Hours in Vegas.
