Trunks masters Goku’s unique Super Saiyan power in Dragon Ball Super

Trunks, known for being the second Saiyan to achieve the Super Saiyan transformation on-screen in the Dragon Ball series, has recently demonstrated his mastery of a unique power that was originally utilized by Goku.

Trunks made his memorable debut in Dragon Ball Z, where he played a pivotal role in closing the Frieza Saga and ushering in the Android/Cell Sagas. Fans were astonished when Trunks effortlessly powered up to Super Saiyan, a feat that had previously been a struggle for the heroes, and proceeded to defeat Frieza with remarkable ease. However, it’s important to note that this version of Trunks hailed from the future timeline, and his achievements couldn’t be directly attributed to the Trunks from the primary Dragon Ball timeline. Nevertheless, it seems that the Trunks from the main universe is on his way to surpassing his future counterpart, as indicated by a recent chapter of Dragon Ball Super.

In chapter #88 of Dragon Ball Super, authored by Akira Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarou, Goku and Vegeta find themselves training on Lord Beerus’ world following their swift defeat at the hands of Frieza. Meanwhile, Trunks and Goten, donning their superhero personas as Saiyaman X-1 and Saiyaman X-2, are using their Saiyan powers to combat crime in their city. Throughout the chapter, Trunks and Goten receive reports of strange activities at an allegedly abandoned store, rumored to be operated by the undead. Intrigued, the Saiyaman duo decides to investigate. However, due to an upgrade in Goten’s costume, Trunks is left to handle the mission alone, which leads to his display of Goku-like ingenuity and eventual victory.

During Trunks’ battle against zombie-androids within the seemingly abandoned store, the lights suddenly go out, leaving him surrounded and blinded by the undead enemies. However, Trunks instinctively taps into his Super Saiyan form, illuminating the room in an instant and simultaneously blinding his attackers. This unexpected turn of events grants Trunks a momentary advantage that stemmed from an otherwise unfortunate circumstance. Interestingly, this maneuver mirrors Goku’s actions in Dragon Ball chapter #450 when he faced off against one of Babidi’s minions named Yakon. Yakon, a creature who thrived in darkness, initially believed he had the upper hand when Goku challenged him in his own realm. However, Goku unleashed his Super Saiyan power, using the emitted light to blind Yakon and turn the tables in his favor.

While Saiyan warriors typically perceive the light emitted during their Super Saiyan transformation as a byproduct rather than a strategic weapon that can sway the outcome of a battle based on the environment, both Trunks and Goku demonstrated the versatility of this power when the situation demanded it. This indicates that Trunks has mastered Goku’s secret Super Saiyan power right from the start of Dragon Ball Super’s new era, showcasing his growth as a character within the series.
