Resurrection and reincarnation in Dragon Ball are distinct methods of coming back to life, with resurrection having more limitations compared to reincarnation.
In the Dragon Ball series, characters who perish in battles often rely on the Dragon Balls to bring them back to life. The Z Fighters and their allies gather the mystical orbs and summon Shenron or Porunga, who have the power to resurrect the deceased. However, resurrection comes with various conditions and restrictions. Shenron can only grant one wish and cannot revive the same person twice, while Porunga can revive multiple times but only those who died unnaturally.
Reincarnation, on the other hand, offers a different form of rebirth. Although it is not extensively explained in Dragon Ball, it played a significant role in the series when two major villains were reborn as potential heroes. Reincarnation typically results in positive transformations and offers individuals a fresh start.
Resurrections in Dragon Ball involve different methods and characters. Fortuneteller Baba can temporarily bring back individuals from the Other World, but they are not exactly the same as their original selves and have a limited duration. Kami revived the dragon Shenron by restoring a statue of him with energy, thereby restoring the Dragon Balls. Some fighters possess the ability to resurrect the dead as loyal warriors, while certain androids were created using human corpses as a foundation but become essentially new beings.
Reincarnation is primarily overseen by King Yemma, who can choose to send souls to Heaven or Hell or grant them the opportunity to be reborn. Reincarnated individuals often seek redemption for their past misdeeds. For instance, Kid Buu is reincarnated as Uub, a human who was once an evil manifestation of Majin Buu. Vegeta could have undergone a similar fate, but circumstances changed after his self-sacrifice during the threat of Super Buu.
One exception to typical reincarnation is Piccolo, originally the evil King Piccolo. Upon his death, he spawned an egg containing his reincarnated self, Piccolo Jr., who continued his rivalry with Goku but later became an ally and formed a strong bond with Gohan.
While resurrection is subject to specific rules and limitations, reincarnation offers a chance for villains to be reborn and redeemed, resulting in new beginnings and character transformations.
