Black Clover Phantom Knights game will end its service on December 9th

Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that the smartphone game Black Clover Phantom Knights (Black Clover Mugen no Kishidan) will be ending its services on December 9, both in Japan and in the English-language global version. In-game currency sales will also come to a halt on November 4. The game was originally launched in Japan in November 2018, and the English-language version for Android and iOS devices was released in January. Black Clover Phantom Knights is a free-to-play kingdom defense role-playing game that allows players to become the leader of a Magic Knights brigade and create their own squad using their favorite characters to protect the kingdom.

The game features characters from the Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom, members of the Diamond Kingdom army, and the members of the White Night Eye, and includes a completely new story that centers on its original characters. The game also includes in-game items available for purchase. The announcement of the game’s shutdown comes as a disappointment for fans of the franchise who have enjoyed the game’s unique storyline and engaging gameplay.

The Black Clover franchise has been popular across different media formats, including video games and anime. Bandai Namco Entertainment previously developed another game in the franchise, Black Clover: Quartet Knights, which was launched in the Americas and Europe for PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam in September 2018. The game also launched in Japan for the PlayStation 4 in September 2018.

Yūki Tabata’s original manga of Black Clover was launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015 and has gained a loyal fanbase. Viz Media is publishing the series digitally and in print in North America. The television anime adaptation premiered in Japan in October 2017 and is still ongoing. Crunchyroll is streaming the series in Japanese with English subtitles, and Funimation is streaming the show’s English dub. The show also debuted on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block in December 2017, further expanding the franchise’s reach to Western audiences.
