Dragon Ball Super Must Address Super Saiyan 4’s Big Issue

Dragon Ball Super may merge with GT in the future, and if it does, it should fix a major issue with the Super Saiyan 4 transformation. Although Super has not yet included Super Saiyan 4 in its canon, it’s possible that Super will eventually merge with GT. If this happens, there’s an opportunity for Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou to reimagine classic GT storylines and transformations in a way that fits naturally with Super. One thing that needs fixing is Super Saiyan 4’s major issue.

Super Saiyan 4 was introduced at the end of Dragon Ball GT season one, where Goku unlocked this transformation after becoming a Golden Great Ape and gaining full control over his mind. Goku did not have to become a Golden Great Ape every time he needed to go Super Saiyan 4, and he could simply be in his base form and power-up to Super Saiyan 4 in an instant. However, only Goku has the ability to go Super Saiyan 4 whenever he wants, and Vegeta needs the assistance of Bulma’s Blutz Wave Generator to go Super Saiyan 4 every single time.

If Super Saiyan 4 is included in Dragon Ball Super in the future, the series needs to fix this issue. It doesn’t make sense for Vegeta to have the power to unlock the transformation in the same way as Goku, but not have the ability to use it without external assistance. Dragon Ball Super has done a great job in closing the power gap between Goku and Vegeta, so it would be a huge regression for the series to have Goku with the magical ability to go Super Saiyan 4 whenever he wants without any clear reason, while Vegeta can’t.
