Why Didn’t All For One Steal Overhaul’s Quirk in My Hero Academia?

All For One, known as one of the most powerful Quirks in My Hero Academia, surprisingly never showed any interest in obtaining Overhaul’s formidable Quirk. With Overhaul possessing incredible versatility and power, it raises the question of why All For One never pursued such a valuable ability.

One possible explanation is that All For One simply wasn’t aware of the existence of Overhaul’s Quirk. While he recognized Kai Chisaki, the wielder of the Quirk, during his escape from Tartarus, his knowledge might have been limited to Chisaki’s role as the young boss of the Shie Hassaikai. The details and capabilities of Overhaul’s Quirk may not have been public knowledge, making it difficult for All For One to recognize its true potential.

Another reason could be that the complexity of Overhaul’s Quirk posed a challenge for All For One. He typically avoids acquiring specialized Quirks that require extensive training and mastery. Overhaul’s Quirk involves intricate manipulation of matter at a molecular level, requiring a deep understanding of chemistry and biology. The amount of time and research needed to fully harness and utilize the Quirk might have outweighed the potential benefits for All For One, especially considering the risks involved and the potential catastrophic consequences if mishandled.

Additionally, All For One may have been too invested in his current plan of raising and controlling Tomura Shigaraki. By the time he learned about Overhaul’s Quirk, he had already dedicated significant time and resources to Shigaraki’s development. Shigaraki’s Decay Quirk shared similarities with Overhaul’s destructive abilities, making the acquisition of Overhaul’s Quirk less essential for offensive purposes. Furthermore, the healing capabilities of Overhaul’s Quirk may not have aligned with All For One’s desire for a newer, younger body, which he was pursuing through Shigaraki.

Ultimately, the decision to not pursue Overhaul’s Quirk may have been a narrative choice by My Hero Academia creator Kōhei Horikoshi. All For One obtaining Overhaul’s Quirk would have made him incredibly overpowered and removed his vulnerability, potentially disrupting the storyline and character motivations. While the in-universe explanations provide some reasoning, it is possible that the writer’s intentions played a significant role in this decision. Perhaps future developments in the story will shed more light on why All For One didn’t attempt to acquire one of the strongest Quirks in the series.
