Recently, Naruto fans have been expressing their outrage after leaked images from the latest chapter of the popular manga series Black Clover surfaced online, showing a character with an eye pattern similar to Sasuke’s famous sharingan. The plagiarism accusations led to many fans criticizing Black Clover’s creator, Yuki Tabata, for allegedly copying ideas from Masashi Kishimoto’s beloved shonen manga.
According to an article on Anime Senpai, one panel from the leaked images showed a character awakening a new power by manifesting a comma-shaped symbol in their eyes that closely resembled the sharingan. Fans of Naruto were quick to point out the similarities, sparking a wave of criticism online against Tabata and Black Clover.
This isn’t the first time that Tabata has been accused of plagiarism, as some fans have noticed other instances where Black Clover seems to have borrowed heavily from Naruto. One Twitter user posted a series of side-by-side images from both manga series, highlighting the similarities between them and accusing Tabata of disrespecting Kishimoto’s work.
However, some Black Clover fans pointed out that the Tomoe symbol, which is used in Sasuke’s sharingan, actually originates from Japanese mythology and has been present in the culture for thousands of years. They defended Tabata by saying that it’s possible for different manga series to use the same symbol without it being plagiarism.
Despite the controversy, Black Clover has been a big hit with readers since it first launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015. The manga has gone on to sell over 18 million copies worldwide, and its anime adaptation, produced by Studio Pierrot, ran for 170 episodes from October 2017 to March 2021. The franchise’s first feature-length film, titled Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, was initially scheduled for release in March 2023, but due to problems caused by the coronavirus outbreak, its premiere date has been pushed back to June 16.
Both Naruto and Black Clover are available in English from VIZ Media, and while the plagiarism accusations have caused some controversy among fans, it remains to be seen whether or not they will have a significant impact on the popularity of either series.
