The Rock receives backlash for taking over WRESTLEMANIA post BLACK ADAM’s DCEU setback

Following the disappointing performance of Black Adam in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is facing a new wave of criticism, this time from wrestling fans, for his involvement in WWE and the recent WrestleMania main event controversy.

Initially hoping to revitalize the struggling DCEU with Black Adam, Johnson’s ambitious plans fell flat as the movie received negative reviews both critically and commercially. In an attempt to salvage the situation, Johnson used his influence to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman without the knowledge of the higher-ups, envisioning a crossover that never materialized. Despite his efforts to spin the film’s shortcomings as success, Johnson’s time as Black Adam was abruptly cut short by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Seeking a rebound from this setback, The Rock recently joined the board of directors at TKO Holdings Group, the Endeavor-owned parent company of WWE and the UFC. Leveraging his position, he has now stirred controversy by influencing the WrestleMania main event. During a recent SmackDown episode, Cody Rhodes relinquished his match with WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the upcoming WrestleMania, making way for The Rock to take his place.

While professional wrestling is scripted, Rhodes’ apparent dissatisfaction with the decision, evident in an awkward hug with Johnson, has raised eyebrows. Reports suggest that The Rock exerted his influence on board members, claiming to “save” WrestleMania following the recent Vince McMahon scandal. The response from fans, however, has been overwhelmingly negative, with the video segment on WWE’s YouTube channel becoming the most disliked in the company’s history. As of now, it has over 300,000 dislikes compared to 77,000 likes.

The backlash against The Rock’s involvement in WWE stems from fans who connect it to his previous failures, particularly Black Adam. Critics argue that if his recent projects, including the DCEU venture, had not faced setbacks, Johnson might not have returned to WWE. This situation, akin to his attempt to shape the DCEU into the DJEU, highlights concerns about the actor’s perceived ego and the potential impact on the creative direction of WWE, as some insiders suggest he might aim to become the main creative force behind the scenes. The unfolding controversy at WrestleMania serves as another instance where Johnson’s ambitious vision clashes with audience expectations and industry norms.
