The latest offering from Walt Disney Animation is receiving an enthusiastic reception from early audiences.
Wish, designed to commemorate a century of Disney storytelling, seamlessly blends contemporary computer-generated animation with traditional techniques. The film had its red carpet premiere on Wednesday, and initial reactions from press members are overwhelmingly positive.
Celebrating Disney’s musical heritage on its 100th anniversary, Wish transports viewers to the enchanting kingdom of Rosas. The story follows Asha, a clever idealist, whose powerful wish is answered by a cosmic force named Star. Together, Asha and Star face a formidable adversary, King Magnifico, in a quest to save their community and showcase the transformative magic that occurs when the determination of a courageous individual aligns with the celestial power of the stars.
Featuring the voices of Academy Award®-winning actor Ariana DeBose as Asha, Chris Pine as Magnifico, and Alan Tudyk as Asha’s beloved goat, Valentino, the film is directed by Oscar® winner Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”). It is produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones (“Encanto”), with Jennifer Lee (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) as executive producer. Lee and Allison Moore (“Night Sky,” “Manhunt”) are the writers on the project.
The early reviews for Wish emphasize its magical and inspiring qualities, portraying it as a celebration of hope and a return to the heart of Disney’s storytelling. The film is described as having a pure heart and being a pure magic experience.”
