Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to Star as Sulley in Live-Action ‘Monsters, Inc.’ for Disney Star

“Disney has been capitalizing on fan nostalgia for their animated classics with a string of live-action remakes, including ‘Aladdin’ (2019), ‘The Lion King’ (2019), ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (2017), and upcoming projects like ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Lilo & Stitch.’ The casting choices for these films have sparked numerous discussions online.

Recently, during the London premiere of ‘The Little Mermaid,’ BuzzFeed UK had some fun by posing a hypothetical question: ‘Who would you cast as a live-action Sulley?’ The responses from Disney stars ranged from humorous to thought-provoking.

Halle Bailey, who plays the lead role in ‘The Little Mermaid,’ jokingly suggested Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for the role of Sulley due to his imposing size. However, she questioned whether he had the right softness for the character.

Jess Alexander, who portrays the human Ursula, suggested Jason Momoa in a furry suit, considering his size and vibe.

Daveed Diggs, the voice of Sebastian the Crab, thought Idris Elba would make a good Sulley due to his voice, but noted the actor’s muscular physique.

Ajsa Mohammar and Nathalie Sorrell, who play Ariel’s sisters, suggested Colin Firth, but it seemed like an unconventional choice.

Karolina Conchet, who plays Ariel’s sister Mala, and many commenters agreed that Jack Black could be a suitable choice, given his size and affable personality.

Rob Marshall and John DeLuca, who directed and produced ‘The Little Mermaid,’ respectively, thought Daveed Diggs would be a good fit for Sulley.

Jacob Tremblay, the voice of Flounder, humorously suggested having the original voice actor in a costume, referring to John Goodman, who voiced Sulley in the original animated film.

Lorena Andrea, who plays Ariel’s sister Perla, speculated that Disney might choose Seth Rogen for the role.

Melissa McCarthy, who stars as Ursula, enthusiastically suggested Jim Gaffigan, drawing parallels to his role as Mr. Smee in Disney+’s ‘Peter Pan & Wendy.'”
