Exclusive: Billy Crystal Provides Update on Disney+ Sequel Series ‘Monsters at Work

It’s looking fantastic, incredibly funny, and we’re having a blast working on it.

News about Pixar’s upcoming Disney+ series, ‘Monsters at Work,’ has been scarce lately. In fact, the last time we heard about this show was back in 2019, when we shared the fun ‘Monsters at Work’ logo and anticipated its release in 2020. However, 2020 came and went without any sign of the new show.

Fortunately, we had a chance to catch up on ‘Monsters at Work’ when Collider’s Steve Weintraub interviewed one of its stars, Billy Crystal. While the interview primarily covered Crystal’s entire career, including his recent feature, ‘Standing Up, Falling Down,’ he took a moment to update us on ‘Monsters at Work.’ Crystal confirmed that the series consists of episodes, and he and John Goodman are reprising their roles as the beloved monster duo, Mike and Sulley. He also clarified the timeline of the show, revealing that it picks up six months after the events of ‘Monsters, Inc.,’ where Mike and Sulley are now working on the Laugh Floor. Crystal emphasized how impressive the animation looks, even two decades after the release of the original film, which is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

He said, ‘It’s fantastic looking, it’s hilarious, and we’re having a lot of fun doing it.’

In addition to Crystal and Goodman, the cast of ‘Monsters at Work’ includes Ben Feldman, Kelly Marie Tran, Alanna Ubach, Jennifer Tilly, John Ratzenberger, and Bob Peterson. The series, created and executive produced by Roberts Gannaway, follows Tylor Tuskmon (Feldman), a young and talented mechanic on the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT). Tylor aspires to become a jokester, just like his idols, Mike and Sulley.

Crystal also shared that they’ve made significant progress on the recording for Season 1, with many episodes already completed, despite pandemic-related interruptions. He assured fans that the episodes are of high quality and teased a continuing storyline.

Regarding the episode lengths, Crystal mentioned that some are full-length, while others are half-hour, emphasizing the ongoing narrative’s engaging nature.

‘Monsters at Work’ is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2021, and fans can hardly contain their excitement. As we eagerly await its release, we can only imagine the laughter and heartwarming moments that await us in the world of Monstropolis.
