Blockbuster Hit ‘Elemental’ Arriving on Disney+ Soon

Pixar’s “Elemental” has transformed from an initial box office disappointment into one of the year’s most astonishing success stories. After a lengthy theatrical run, the film is now poised to make its debut on Disney+.

Directed by Peter Sohn, “Elemental” follows the love story of water elemental Wade Ripple (Mamoudou Athie) and fire elemental Ember Lumen (Leah Lewis). Their romance unfolds against a backdrop of familial prejudices and societal bias in the enchanting setting of Element City. Notably, the film received the lowest average reviews ever for a Pixar production and had the studio’s weakest box office opening since “Toy Story” in 1995, garnering just $29.5 million upon its June release.

Initially, the film was widely regarded as another misstep for Pixar and Disney. However, “Elemental” defied expectations, gaining remarkable international popularity and accumulating over $480 million at the box office. It currently stands as the ninth-highest-grossing film of the year and the highest-grossing original Disney film since “Zootopia” in 2016.

With nearly three months of anticipation building among fans, the clamor for “Elemental” to arrive on Disney+ has been growing steadily. Thankfully, this wait is almost over.

In a surprising announcement, Disney revealed that “Elemental” is scheduled to join their central streaming platform on September 13. This announcement caught many media enthusiasts off guard, as it was not included in Disney’s initial list of films coming to Disney+ in September. It will be available just a week after the release of “The Little Mermaid” (2023) on September 6.

Even more exciting is the simultaneous unveiling of a new deal for Disney+. New subscribers who sign up this month can access their first three months of Disney+ for just $1.99, a significant discount from the standard $8 per month subscription fee (or $14 for an ad-free experience).

While the sudden release of “Elemental” on Disney+ ahead of schedule may raise questions, it becomes clearer when viewed in conjunction with this new subscription deal. Disney is seemingly motivated to boost its subscriber numbers, especially as stock prices have been declining and several films released this year have fallen short of expectations. This move is likely part of Disney’s strategy to regain its footing in the streaming arena and ensure the success of its streaming platform.
