Visitors Discover Fresh ‘Big Hero 6’ Landmark in Disney Park

The magical realm of Disney’s classic ‘Big Hero 6’ is gradually materializing at Disney California Adventure. The transformation of the Pacific Wharf into the movie’s cityscape, San Fransokyo, is well underway. Disney disclosed in February that the new area would ingeniously blend the aesthetics of San Francisco and Tokyo, symbolizing the fusion of Western and Eastern representations of Japanese culture. Observant Disney visitors have now glimpsed the assembly of the city’s iconic focal point.

Named San Fransokyo Square, this site will offer a range of dining and shopping experiences influenced by the award-winning film. It will also serve as a prime spot for memorable photos and interactions with characters like Baymax and the Big Hero Six crew. The transition was a seamless one, considering Pacific Wharf’s former theme as San Francisco’s market district, a concept inherited by its successor. Notably, the area’s quick-service eateries have remained operational during this transformation.

Recent sightings reveal the installation of San Fransokyo’s architectural gem, the Torii Gate Bridge. This impressive creation reimagines the Japanese aesthetic of the Golden Gate Bridge and will be a centerpiece at the port’s entrance. This gateway will be accompanied by a floating wind turbine above the former fishing net tannery, adding an innovative visual element.

San Fransokyo’s dining establishments will undergo thematic revamps while retaining their cherished cultural flavors. Cocina Cucamonga, a Mexican cuisine staple, will introduce the Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería, a beer garden. Rita’s Baja Blenders will transform into Rita’s Turbine Blenders. Lucky Fortune Cookery, Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, will maintain their names, and Pacific Wharf Café will be reborn as Aunt Cass Café.

A prominent addition is the San Fransokyo Maker’s Market, offering ‘Big Hero 6’ collectibles like exclusive medallions, pin trading, battle bots, and Baymax merchandise. The debut of the Torii Gate Bridge has generated heightened excitement among Disney enthusiasts, as this animated world marks a unique first.

Mark your calendars for the unveiling of San Fransokyo Square on August 31, 2023, at Disney California Adventure park within the Disneyland Resort.
