In Haikyuu!, the suspension of Nishinoya has a significant reason

Yu Nishinoya, the libero of Karasuno High in Haikyuu!, is known for his incredible skills on the volleyball court and his energetic and passionate personality. However, the term “delinquent” doesn’t quite fit his character. Nevertheless, there was a time when Nishinoya found himself in trouble, leading to a suspension that had an impact on his journey in the series.

During the early stages of Karasuno High forming its volleyball team, Nishinoya was set to make his return after being absent for a considerable period. However, it became evident that he had gotten himself into some kind of trouble, which caused a week-long suspension, leaving fans curious about the details surrounding his suspension.

Prior to his official debut, Nishinoya was already a topic of whispered conversations among the team members. Karasuno High desperately needed a libero who could excel in defense, and Nishinoya seemed like the perfect fit. However, his colorful personality and intense passion sometimes led him to act impulsively, which ultimately resulted in his suspension.

Ryunosuke Tanaka, Nishinoya’s teammate, mentioned the suspension, along with the fact that he was barred from club activities for a month. This led Shoyo Hinata to mistakenly assume that Nishinoya was a delinquent, but Tanaka clarified the situation. He explained that Nishinoya was indeed a passionate individual but often let his emotions get the best of him. Tanaka’s dramatic storytelling style might have added some flair, but there was truth to his words. Nishinoya had a tendency to act before thinking, which had consequences.

The incident that led to Nishinoya’s suspension took place a year before the events of Haikyuu!. At that time, he and Asahi Azumane, the team’s ace, were preparing for a tournament. However, during a game against Date Tech, Asahi’s fighting spirit was crushed when his powerful spikes were repeatedly blocked by the formidable “Iron Wall” defense.

Frustrated by Asahi’s perceived lack of determination, Nishinoya engaged in arguments with him, even going as far as pushing him during a practice session. The tension escalated, and in a heated moment, Nishinoya ended up breaking a vase. Unfortunately for him, this incident unfolded right in front of the vice principal’s office, leading to his suspension from club activities.

Despite the temporary setback, Nishinoya’s passion for volleyball remained unwavering. A year later, when Karasuno High reformed its team, Nishinoya made it clear that he would not practice unless Asahi returned. It took the combined efforts of Tobio Kageyama and Shoyo Hinata to convince Asahi to rejoin the team, fulfilling Nishinoya’s wish.

In hindsight, Nishinoya’s suspension played a significant role in shaping the team’s dynamics. It forced him to reflect on his actions and served as a lesson in controlling his impulses. Ultimately, the incident paved the way for the formation of a solid team at Karasuno High, with Nishinoya’s unwavering dedication and positive intentions driving their pursuit of success on the volleyball court.

So, while Nishinoya’s temperament may have gotten him into trouble, his journey in Haikyuu! showcases personal growth, resilience, and a deep-rooted passion for the sport he loves.
