Jujutsu Kaisen outsells One Piece and Chainsaw Man, becoming the best-selling manga

Oricon, the renowned Japanese rating service, recently unveiled their list of the best-selling manga in Japan for the year 2022. In this highly anticipated ranking, Gege Akutami’s sensational series, Jujutsu Kaisen, secured the coveted top spot, triumphing over the legendary Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece and the immensely popular Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man.

Oricon, a distinguished corporate group known for providing comprehensive statistics and insights into the music industry, extends its reach to various entertainment domains. Jujutsu Kaisen reigns supreme as the best-selling manga of 2022, as announced by Oricon. The series achieved staggering estimated sales of 12.2 million copies during the period from November 22, 2021, to November 20, 2022. Notably, Jujutsu Kaisen’s eighteenth volume alone contributed to the remarkable figures, with over 2.1 million copies sold across Japan.

Claiming the second position on the list is Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers, which garnered an impressive total of over 11 million copies sold. Tokyo Revengers’ eighteenth volume emerged as its highest-selling installment. Tatsuya Endo’s Spy x Family secured the third spot, with estimated sales surpassing 10.6 million copies, out of which volume nine accounted for over 1.7 million copies sold.

The legendary One Piece by Eiichiro Oda claimed the fourth place on the best-selling manga list for 2022, accumulating sales of over 10.3 million copies. The series’ one hundred and first volume proved to be the standout, with sales exceeding 2 million copies.

Kohei Horikoshi’s beloved My Hero Academia clinched the fifth spot, with a total estimated sales figure exceeding 5.3 million copies, with volume 33 contributing 868,511 copies to the overall tally.

The comprehensive ranking for the top 15 best-selling manga of 2022 in Japan, as reported by Oricon, is as follows:

  1. Jujutsu Kaisen
  2. Tokyo Revengers
  3. Spy × Family
  4. One Piece
  5. My Hero Academia
  6. Kingdom
  7. Blue Lock
  8. Chainsaw Man

  11. Demon Slayer
  12. Golden Kamuy

It is indeed surprising that Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man, despite its immense popularity, did not secure a position within the top five manga series. Furthermore, it was a remarkable year for sports-themed series like Blue Lock and Ao Ashi, both managing to secure spots in the top 10 and top 15, respectively, underscoring their strong reception among readers.
