Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 may include FighterZ’s powerful technique

Dragon Ball fans rejoice! With Dragon Ball: The Breakers still going strong and both Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 receiving updates and improvements, the much-anticipated release of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is on the horizon. While the game’s shape remains unknown, it has already generated a lot of hype in the Dragon Ball community. With this upcoming release, there will be some torch passes by the older generation, and Budokai Tenkaichi 4 could borrow some gameplay mechanics from Dragon Ball FighterZ to elevate its gameplay.

Budokai Tenkaichi 4 could benefit from borrowing one of Dragon Ball FighterZ’s flashier features, namely its tag team scenarios. Budokai Tenkaichi has always been focused on duel combat, but adding team battles could be a major boon to its gameplay. Spike Chunsoft, the series developer, has refined its tag gameplay in subsequent arena fighters, which could be incorporated into the old Dragon Ball series. However, if there’s any Dragon Ball tag fighter that Budokai Tenkaichi 4 should be drawing inspiration from, it is its fellow DBZ title FighterZ.

FighterZ’s tag super system is too good to leave behind, and it could be a game-changer for Budokai Tenkaichi 4. FighterZ is built around tag fighting like no other game and makes the best use of its combatants. By inputting the appropriate motion and pressing an assist button during a combo or super, another character will jump in and use their level 1 or level 3 super. This can be done with both teammates, making for safe tags and massive damage. Inheriting these team mechanics would be the best way Budokai Tenkaichi 4 can pay homage to FighterZ and add a distinct identity to team battles.

In addition to the team super combo mechanic, Budokai Tenkaichi 4 could also borrow “What If?” story scenarios from Dragon Ball Xenoverse and the basic arena fighter competency of Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Budokai Tenkaichi 4 doesn’t need to surpass FighterZ as a competitive fighting game, but there are lessons to be learned from the Arc System Works title. By picking the right features, Budokai Tenkaichi 4 could reach its full potential and be a game that Dragon Ball fans will love.
