Broly’s Lack of “Kakarot” Referral in New Dragon Ball Super Chapter Explained

Dragon Ball Super: Broly was a highly anticipated movie for Dragon Ball fans, as it featured the return of the fan-favorite character, Broly. The movie was a hit, and it ended on a high note with an emotional scene between Goku and Broly. In the scene, Goku acknowledges Broly as a fellow Saiyan and asks him to call him by his Saiyan name, Kakarot. This moment was a significant step forward for Goku’s character, and it showed how much he respected Broly as a warrior.

However, when the Dragon Ball Super manga began its adaptation of the Super Hero movie, some fans were confused by Broly’s dialogue in Chapter 92. In the chapter, Goku and Broly are shown sparring on Beerus’s planet, and during their exchange, Broly refers to Goku as “Son Goku” instead of “Kakarot.”

Many fans were bothered by this and felt that it undermined the ending of the Broly movie. They believed that Broly not calling Goku by his Saiyan name showed that he didn’t respect Goku as much as he did at the end of the movie.

However, it’s important to note that the misinterpretation seems to have originated from the English dub of the movie, where Goku explicitly asks Broly to call him Kakarot. In the original Japanese version, Goku gives Broly the option to call him either Son Goku or Kakarot.

It’s also worth considering Broly’s upbringing and how it may have influenced his decision to call Goku by his Earth name. As shown in the Broly movie, Broly was raised by his father, Paragus, to be highly formal and reserved in front of strangers. It’s possible that Broly feels calling Goku by his preferred name, Kakarot, may be seen as disrespectful or informal.

Overall, while some fans may be bothered by Broly’s dialogue in Chapter 92 of the Dragon Ball Super manga, it’s important to remember that it doesn’t detract from the emotional ending of the Broly movie. Goku’s acknowledgment of his Saiyan heritage and his respect for Broly still stands, and there’s plenty of room for Broly’s character to grow and evolve in future appearances.
