Few can forget the unforgettable experience of watching Disney’s The Lion King for the first time, a movie that often leaves people emotionally moved and reaching for tissues to wipe away their tears.
Recently, two special viewers had their own screening of the beloved film. These viewers, however, were not your typical movie enthusiasts—they were lion cubs residing in a conservation area in Tanzania. The cubs were captivated by the vibrant colors and enchanting music on display.
During the iconic scene where Simba is presented to the entire Pride Rock as a young cub, the cubs displayed their fascination by tilting their heads in curiosity. In one adorable moment, they even exchanged glances with each other before turning their attention back to the 1994 classic.
The heartwarming video, shared by the conservation group @servalwildlife, has garnered over 11.2 million views. This organization, based in Kilimanjaro, regularly posts clips of the wildlife they aim to protect, including lions, giraffes, and zebras.
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), lions are categorized as a vulnerable species, with approximately 23,000 remaining in the wild. The majority of African lions, around 80 percent, are now concentrated in sub-Saharan Africa. Sadly, lions have disappeared from 12 sub-Saharan countries in recent decades, with habitat loss, illegal wildlife trade, and human conflict contributing to a 40 percent decline in their population over the past three generations.
Despite their declining numbers, the sight of a lion remains highly sought after, and organizations like @servalwildlife attract numerous tourists eager to witness these majestic creatures firsthand.
When the video of the cubs watching The Lion King was shared, which is considered the most popular animated movie according to YouGov, social media users were amazed by their adorable reactions. The clip has already garnered over 2.2 million views and received more than 14,000 comments within a week of being posted on TikTok.
One user commented, “There’s something about lions watching The Lion King that just makes sense.”
Another user expressed, “I had no idea that lion cubs watching The Lion King would become my most favorite thing ever when I opened this app today.”
