My Hero Academia fulfills Dabi’s desires, but the outcome is heartbreaking

In the fiery battle of My Hero Academia, Dabi’s mind unveils a tragic revelation about his deepest desires.

As the series focuses on Dabi’s destructive final acts, a glimpse into his thoughts offers a sorrowful perspective on what the flame-wielding villain has always yearned for.

Despite enduring severe injuries and being defeated by his brother, Dabi persists in his fight. Despite his emaciated appearance, he manages to navigate one of Kurogiri’s portals, driven by his relentless pursuit of one last confrontation with Endeavor. Surprisingly, Dabi reveals an ice Quirk that has kept him from burning himself away. Now, intentionally pushing himself to the limit, he plans to unleash a final explosive attack that will take down his father and countless others. However, his plans are interrupted when his mother Rei and siblings (excluding Shoto) appear before him. The sudden presence of his family leaves both Dabi and Endeavor astonished, but Dabi’s mind regresses in the scorching heat, reducing him to a childlike mentality.

Dabi’s distorted perception leads him to believe that his family has gathered to celebrate and express their pride in him for manifesting his new Quirk, fulfilling his father’s long-standing expectations. In this imagined scene, Dabi is depicted without an arm, symbolizing the destruction he faced in his previous failed attack. This imagery isn’t a memory or an ideal scenario; it is merely a twisted interpretation fueled by Dabi’s rapidly deteriorating mind.

This glimpse into Dabi’s mind reveals that, deep down, his constant struggle has always been about seeking his father’s approval. Even as a villain, his underlying desires remained unchanged, aiming to surpass his father and prove himself worthy of his inherited flame Quirk. It also demonstrates that, despite his current state, Dabi still possesses some love for his family, although he is beyond the point of acting upon it. The scene emphasizes that perhaps there was a time when Dabi could have been saved, making his imminent demise all the more tragic.

My Hero Academia presents a heart-wrenching conclusion for one of the most troubled families in anime and manga. However, Dabi’s journey is not yet complete, with Shoto en route to their final confrontation. Is there any chance that Shoto can reach his estranged brother, even for a fleeting moment?
