Disney delays ‘Deadpool’ sequel, ‘Blade,’ and other films due to post-strike reshuffling

In response to the recently concluded four-month actors’ strike, Walt Disney has made significant adjustments to its film release schedule. Among the notable changes, the release of the highly anticipated Marvel movie “Blade” has been delayed, along with a new installment of the popular “Deadpool” franchise and several other films. The adjustment comes as Hollywood studios grapple with the aftermath of the prolonged labor dispute, which halted production on scripted TV shows and movies for 118 days.

According to a statement from Disney, the next installment in the “Deadpool” series, originally slated for a May release, will now make its debut in late July. This rescheduling, in turn, has prompted the company to shift the release of “Captain America: Brave New World” to February 2025.

In addition to the “Deadpool” shift, another Marvel superhero film, “Thunderbolts,” has been pushed to a July 2025 release, while the release of “Blade” has been postponed until November 2025. These changes reflect the studios’ efforts to recalibrate their schedules and accommodate the completion of projects that were left unfinished due to the strike.

The strike, which concluded with a tentative labor agreement reached on Wednesday, saw a shutdown of production activities across the entertainment industry. With the resolution of the strike, both studios and actors are now actively working to finalize arrangements for the completion of projects affected by the work stoppage.

Beyond the Marvel universe, Disney has also made adjustments to other film releases. The debut of “Mufasa: The Lion King” has been rescheduled to December 2024, marking a five-month delay from its original release date.
