The gargoyles and their allies hold their ground with a mix of combat prowess and magical support. Amidst the chaos, a personal tragedy strikes close to home as someone dear to Hudson is mortally wounded. Responding swiftly, Hudson seeks justice and swiftly avenges the assault, fueling his troops’ determination to emerge victorious.

King Cullen, realizing the tides are against him, takes desperate measures to save face. He incapacitates Demona, a prominent gargoyle, leveraging her safety for a safe retreat. Goliath, now driven by fury, must be restrained from pursuing retribution against Cullen. Diplomatic discussions follow, ultimately permitting Cullen’s escape in exchange for Demona’s safety. Meanwhile, Hudson hints at a strategy to conclude the conflict, setting the stage for the next issue.

A significant death resonates through the story, casting a shadow over the events to come. Despite this, much of the issue revolves around an extended battle sequence between the Wyvern clan and human forces. The artwork expertly conveys the action, with gargoyle warriors slicing through the air and the sorcery adding a unique dimension to the fray. However, the rapid shift in Hudson’s emotional state—from vengeful to composed—is slightly jarring, considering the intense personal loss he just endured.

The art, helmed by Drew Moss, maintains the quality seen in the previous issue. While some differentiation between human armies and characters could enhance clarity, the depiction of movement and impact remains engaging. The motion lines effectively capture the energy of the gargoyles in action. Notably, the absence of visible blood or graphic injuries, despite the comic’s “Teen” rating, slightly dampens the weight of certain moments, including the significant death.

Yet, emotions are beautifully portrayed through character expressions, particularly during the mourning scenes. Hudson’s grief transforms into resolute determination, illustrated through glowing eyes and a renewed zeal for battle. The color palette, despite the nocturnal setting, injects life into the scenes. Moonlight, starlight, and red undertones contribute to an atmospheric backdrop, heightening the intensity and emotions of the battles.

‘Gargoyles: Dark Ages’ #2 continues to enrich the Wyvern clan’s backstory. The artwork immerses readers in a gripping battle between gargoyles and humans. While some clarity could be gained from better distinguishing human factions, the visuals capture motion and intensity well. The comic’s rating restrictions limit visible injuries, impacting pivotal moments. Nevertheless, emotions shine through, supported by skillful color usage that enhances the storytelling. Moonlight, starlight, and red hues paint an enigmatic battlefield. Overall, ‘Gargoyles: Dark Ages’ #2 remains a satisfying addition, propelling readers toward the intriguing mysteries that await.”
